MI-Signalling is an independent CBTC and ETCS consultancy. We've held senior roles on flagship digital signalling programmes for major metros and main lines across North America and Europe. And we help agencies and suppliers deliver modern train control on railways that carry passengers every day.
Brownfield CBTC conversions and ETCS deployments fail for predictable reasons: requirements that don't survive contact with suppliers, interfaces nobody owns, testing that starts too late, and software defects that surface in revenue service.
MI-Signalling exists to prevent exactly that.
We're an independent signalling and systems engineering consultancy covering the full V lifecycle of digital train control. Our people have held senior technical delivery roles on some of the world's largest CBTC and ETCS programmes.
From the first specification to reliable revenue service.
Technical specifications, concepts of operations, and requirements management in DOORS. Your procurement and your suppliers get one unambiguous target.
Design authority services, design reviews, and independent safety assessment to recognised rail safety standards.
Interface management, verification & validation strategy, systems integration testing, and acceptance into revenue service.
CBTC performance improvement, RAMS and reliability studies, and root cause analysis of signalling failures on operating railways.
CBTC Performance and Implementation Manager for a brownfield conversion on one of North America's largest legacy metros.
System V&V Manager for one of Europe's largest ETCS programmes, putting digital signalling onto an operating main line.
Senior technical delivery on a major metro CBTC modernisation, including independent software and safety assessment. Plus independent verification for a metro signalling project in Asia.
The best programmes get their specifications, interfaces and assurance strategy right before contracts are signed. Tell us where you are. We'll tell you honestly how we can help.
Get in touchMI-Signalling is a UK-headquartered rail signalling and systems engineering consultancy serving clients across North America and Europe.
MI-Signalling was founded in 2024 by Janagan Yoganathan, a signalling and systems engineer with over 15 years in digital train control. His career includes senior technical delivery on a major European metro CBTC modernisation and technical leadership on the CBTC programme of one of North America's largest metros.
On those programmes he introduced operator-led testing: putting the people who run the railway at the centre of software acceptance, so defects are found and fixed before deployment. Signalling software quality rose as a result.
That discipline extends to operating railways. Our engineers have traced deep-rooted technical faults on live CBTC networks and resolved them, cutting delays for passengers.
Today we're engaged at senior technical level on flagship CBTC and ETCS programmes across North America and Europe.
To make digital signalling programmes succeed: train control systems that enter service safely and perform reliably for decades after.
A rail industry where modernisation no longer means delay and overrun. Where every agency can call on independent, experienced engineers at the stages of a programme where they matter most.
Our expertise comes from live brownfield conversions on some of the world's busiest metros and main lines. Railways carrying passengers every day while we modernised them.
We sit on your side of the table. Our design reviews, safety assessments and verification carry no supplier allegiance, and we work to recognised rail safety standards.
From authoring the technical specification to accepting software into revenue service, we speak every stage of the V lifecycle. Nothing gets lost in handover between phases.
Engage MI-Signalling and you deal directly with the engineers who did the work. The people with the track record are the people who turn up.
CBTC and ETCS expertise for transit agencies, infrastructure owners and suppliers. From first specification to reliable revenue service.
The most expensive signalling mistakes are written into contracts years before anyone notices them. We author the technical specifications, operational scenarios and concepts of operations that give your procurement an unambiguous, testable target. Then we validate supplier bids against them.
Design flaws found on paper are cheap to fix. Found in service, they cost millions.
Our design reviews and independent safety assessments catch issues while they're still cheap to fix, and give your board and your regulator evidence they can rely on. We work to recognised European rail safety standards.
Integration is where signalling programmes are won or lost: multiple suppliers, live infrastructure, and interfaces nobody wants to own.
We manage those interfaces, set the V&V strategy, oversee integration testing, and drive software and systems through acceptance into revenue service. Our operator-led Software Acceptance Testing approach finds defects while they're still cheap to fix, before build freeze.
A CBTC system that underperforms in service costs the railway every day. We improve operating digital railways: RAMS and reliability studies, root cause analysis of signalling failures, and hands-on performance work of the kind that cut CBTC delays on one of the world's busiest metros.
Tell us where you are. We'll tell you honestly how we can help.
